How are you keeping yourself busy in your time away from work?
Exercise, dog walks, Zoom or FaceTime with friends and family.
Do you have any tips or tricks for creating an ideal home office?
The ideal home office is in the eye of the beholder, but having some privacy and room to work is key. I think using my car for conference calls has been great. It gets me out of the house and into the fresh air.
What challenges do you see coming up for employees over the next eight weeks? What do you recommend to the members of HCAA as ideas for helping their employees?
The challenge we feel is balancing those not working enough with those working all the time. Working remote is an adjustment in itself and then adding home life into the mix at the same time, can be overwhelming. We are trying to communicate with staff as much as possible to help with the work/life balance. We try to have all-staff Zoom meetings to communicate important items and use the video feature to see familiar faces.
What is the flip side of the challenges? Specifically, what are the opportunities you see as an outcome of the pandemic for how the members of HCAA do business, address culture in their organizations, support employees going forward?
The outcome of this is going to be more opportunities for groups to look at self-funding benefits in the upcoming year. With carriers already hinting at double digit increases we are letting our broker partners know we are poised and ready to assist them in any way possible. Another opportunity we see is having everyone work remote. We now know we can look for talent anywhere in the United States when we need a new staff member. We now know we can be a little more flexible with allowing folks to work from home so we may be able to retain good employees.
